Maui’s Second Annual
FREE Solar Tour Launches

Maui's Second Annual Solor Tour on October 6, 2007 is part of the National Solar Tour

Energy Awareness Month

PAIA, HI—On Saturday October 6th, Maui residents are invited to tour homes and businesses that save money and the environment by using solar energy.
Maui’s 2nd Annual "House of the Sun Solar Tour," sponsored by the nonprofit
Hawaii PV Coalition, is part of a National Solar Tour that kicks off October as
National Energy Awareness Month.

During the tour residents will learn how their neighbors are trimming their electric bills, increasing their energy independence and taking steps to address global warming. Tour hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will feature properties in North, West, South and Central Maui. The event is FREE to the public. Participants register to attend the tour by calling 808-579-8288 or by emailing info@hawaiipvcoalition.org.

The tour will feature property owners and experts who will discuss the financial and environmental reasons for going solar — including the state and federal tax credits that are available. Maui Community College’s solar hot water lab will be highlighted on the tour and UPC Hawaii Wind will provide information on the wind farm. Maui’s participants will join the 45 states and approximately 90,000 attendees who are projected to participate in the national tour.

The Sun Solar Tour is sponsored by the
American Solar Energy Society sponsor of Maui Sun Solar Tour

"The State of Hawaii is more dependent on imported fossil fuel than any other state in the nation.
It’s time we changed that by using the renewable options available to us," said Brad Albert, founder of the Hawaii PV Coalition. "This tour gives Maui residents a first-hand look at solar technology — learning what it is, how it works, and how it decreases our dependence on oil."

Co-sponsors of Maui’s tour are:
Rising Sun Solar Electric, ProVision Technologies, UPC Hawaii Wind,
and the Hawaii Solar Energy Association.

The Hawaii PV Coalition, a nonprofit organization composed of businesses and homeowners, was formed to actively promote solar electric energy across the Hawaiian Islands.
